Custom web applications and APIs
In the end, software doesn’t need to look modern above all. It needs to work in a real company. That is exactly what we build custom applications, interfaces and systems for.
The standard line on pages like this is usually that every company is unique and therefore needs unique software. Sometimes that is true. Often it is just the polite version of: the existing tools don’t really fit.
In practice it is rarely about uniqueness for its own sake. It is more that processes, data flows, permissions or business rules in a company simply don’t fit cleanly into an off-the-shelf solution. Then daily work starts with workarounds. Excel files travel between departments. Information is entered more than once. Employees jump between five windows to finish a case that has long been digitalised, at least on paper.
This is exactly where custom software makes sense. Made to measure is not nobler by default. But at some point a system has to reflect the reality of a company, not just the assumptions of a software vendor.
So for us, good software development doesn’t start with a technology decision. It starts with the question of what actually happens there every day. Who needs which information? Which steps are necessary for the business, and which exist only because earlier systems couldn’t do any better? And where does a process turn into needless friction that technology could remove quite easily?
Today is Life is based in Hamburg. We build for clients on site in Hamburg and remotely, also together with our partner team in Heraklion.
Custom applications for workflows that forms, lists and standard tools can no longer handle sensibly.
Connections between systems, so that information no longer has to be transferred by hand, exported and typed in again.
Customer, employee and administration portals where access, roles, processes and traceability have to fit together.
Products with their own business model and their own logic, which need a good deal more than a pretty interface.
Further development or rebuilding of systems that have stayed important to the business but are slowly reaching their technical limits.
Connecting ERP, CRM, BI, external services or industry-specific software so that several tools become one working system.
We don’t think much of making projects sound bigger than they are. Not every task needs a platform architecture right away, event-driven-something and twelve services watching each other.
Sometimes a company simply needs a clean application that handles one specific process better than before. Sometimes it is about interfaces. Sometimes about a new product. And sometimes the most honest answer is that the domain model should be tidied up first, before anyone talks about code.
So we try to think of software as neither too small nor too big. It should do the job, cope with real data, stay maintainable and be easy to develop further later, without every change turning into an archaeological dig.
With AI in view, this matters more, not less. The more systems are supposed to decide, prepare or carry out things automatically, the cleaner the processes, states, metadata and responsibilities underneath have to be modelled. Otherwise the surface looks modern, but underneath there is still organised randomness.
For us, software development is more than programming. In the end, a company should work better digitally than before.
When software is more than working code, and why good systems take their business context into account.
How AI gets built in sensibly where processes, data and decision logic are actually ready for it.
If you have a project that standard software can no longer solve cleanly, we would be glad to look at it together.
