Check first, then inspire

The story of Today is Life doesn’t begin with a revolutionary business idea, but with a simple observation: many companies fail not for lack of technology, but because they apply it wrongly.

When we started in 2015, we saw every day how strong tools were turned into mediocre software – not out of bad intent, but out of a lack of understanding for the people who would later have to work with these systems.

The name Today is Life is therefore not decoration. It reminds us that technology is not an end in itself, but is meant to serve life: life in companies, the lives of customers and, ultimately, life in a society that is increasingly shaped by software, data and machines.

We believe in a practice in which technology empowers people instead of replacing them, data creates insight instead of confusion, and innovation is not played off against humanity. That sounds theoretical, but for us it is highly practical. We are not philosophers watching digitalisation from the outside. We build systems that people have to work with.

Experience that sees the difference

Today is Life is an IT company founded in Hamburg in 2015. At its centre is Guido Mitschke, managing director and technical head of the company. With over 40 years of experience in IT and programming, he has lived and shaped the development from the early personal computers to today’s AI.

For us, this experience is not a nostalgia argument but a filter. It helps to recognise patterns earlier, to tell fashions from lasting developments and to avoid expensive detours.

In practice it shows in very different fields: business intelligence in healthcare with Qlik, custom software development, product ideas from our own house and AI projects that are not meant to end with a demo. This very mix makes our view useful. We know technology as something that has to hold up in organisations, products and real workflows, not just as a concept.

Today this condenses into four perspectives through which we look at digitalisation: artificial intelligence, business intelligence, human intelligence and software intelligence. This is where the connection that defines Today is Life comes from: AI, data, software and the question of what of all this actually makes sense for people, teams and organisations.

Hamburg meets Heraklion

Today is Life doesn’t work from a single office, but in a partnership that has grown between Hamburg and Heraklion. Since 2016 we have worked closely with TheRightClick in Crete. What began as development cooperation is now joint product development, technical build and support across two locations.

For customers this is not a nice backdrop but part of how we work. Hamburg holds responsibility, product thinking and closeness to the customer. In Heraklion sits a partner team that has been developing and delivering with us for years.

On top of that comes a circle of specialised agents when architecture, security, testing, translation or quality assurance need extra depth. The result is a team that can deliver projects, not an org chart for the wall.

For us, Hamburg and Crete are two workplaces of the same story.

How we work

Our projects don’t follow a consulting ritual in which things are explained at length first and maybe built later. We work together, iteratively and with clear feedback.

Co-creation instead of distance

We develop software together with our customers. Domain knowledge and technical expertise belong around one table early on, not in an acceptance meeting at the end.

Show early, learn early

Instead of developing for months in a quiet corner, we show results early. That way we can correct course in time, before assumptions turn into expensive certainties.

Knowledge transfer is part of it

Our aim is not dependency but understandability. That is why documentation, orientation and training are a fixed part of the project with us, not an optional extra delivered on the side.

Honesty and limits

We don’t sell dreams. If a project doesn’t work technically, organisationally or economically, we say so. For us this honesty is as much a part of the work as architecture, code and data models.
