IT security for practices, without the paperwork

Since 2021, medical and dental practices in Germany have been required to implement the IT security guidelines of the KBV and KZBV (the legal basis today is § 390 SGB V, the current version has applied since 2025) – in Austria the GTelG applies, in Switzerland the EPDG. In practice that means long catalogues of requirements that, without a structured tool, trickle away into Excel lists and filing cabinets. According to the KBV, the guideline itself creates no sanctions of its own; but missing measures can become a problem in the event of an incident, a data protection inspection or a liability question if the practice cannot show where it stands. What consequences threaten in an individual case is for the responsible regional association of statutory health insurance physicians (Kassenärztliche Vereinigung) to decide.
