PWA · GPS-based city exploration game
Streethunt
Walk your own city street by street, with GPS tracking, a progress display per street and leaderboards.
Streethunt is a game for anyone who wants to explore their city on foot: a street only counts once you have walked it. The app uses GPS to track your progress for each street and district. Hamburg, with over 9,600 recorded streets, is the first city.
Every street walked once
Streethunt turns exploring a city into a game with a clear rule: a street only counts if you have actually walked it. The app breaks a city down into its individual streets (Hamburg, with over 9,600 recorded streets, is the first target city), uses GPS to track which of them you have already walked, and shows progress as a percentage per street and district.
The target group is people who want to discover their city systematically on foot, similar to the Strava heatmap community, but with a fixed goal instead of just counting kilometres: to “uncover” a whole city or district.
Technically, the progress calculation deliberately runs offline on the device: street geometry is loaded once as a lightweight GeoJSON file, and GPS points are matched locally against the nearest streets with Turf.js. Only after the walk is the recorded track uploaded and fed into server-side leaderboards. That keeps the server load low even with many simultaneous users.
